About SMU

SMU History

Single Moms United was birthed from the life experiences of its founder, Anissa Green. Anissa is a motivational speaker, a MONEY Motivator, and a loving mother of one, that challenges all to "Pursue their Purpose in Life." The vision to provide 6 months of transitional housing, supply basic needs, empower women to become successful leaders, was as a direct result of homelessness in 2001. Although her professional background is Sales and Cost Analysis for over 20 years, Anissa became more passionately involved as a Philanthropist, after loosing everything she and her then 2 yr. old daughter owned in the 2001 Allison Flood of Houston, becoming a divorced single mom, and surviving the Enron demise. She firmly believes "that which does not kill you, truly makes you stronger." She became an "other's focused" person, and attributes her success to her faith in God, and her belief that "we are all blessed to be a blessing." Her motto is "your current circumstance does NOT dictate your future." The vision of SMU is to address and develop the 5 aspects of man: Spiritual Growth – bible study, prayer, and church fellowship. Declaring God’s will and purpose for their lives, to exhort them to their destiny. Mental/Self-Esteem – mandatory classes for self-development and Leadership training developing the “greatness in you.” Financial Awareness – Credit education, budgeting and ultimately home ownership. Physical Commitment - Health/Wellness – As we change our thinking and develop our minds and souls, the body must follow suit. Social Activities – Become actively involved in community & social events, SMU socials and stepping out of their comfort zone and get to know others. Professional – Strengthen their work ethics, enhance their skill set. Develop and perfect their business and entrepreneurial skills. Set goals, track goals and report to an accountability partner and/or mentor.
